Joanne Kilgour Dowdy, PH.D.

Joanne Kilgour Dowdy is Professor Emerita at Kent State University, Ohio. She is the author and editor of 18 books. A graduate of the Juilliard School in New York, she has performed Between Me and the Lord, an autobiographical work in Trinidad and the USA for Jane Fonda’s Think Tank at Harvard University. Among her awards is the Derek Walcott (1992, Nobel Laureate) Scholarship. Her first children’s book, OLYMPIC HERO: LENNOX KILGOUR’S STORY, was made into an animated film that can be viewed at jokdowdy.com. The book now appears in Spanish and Haitian Krewol. She is presently doing readings from her new collection of vignettes inspired by her grandma from Trinidad and Tobago.
